On this 7 Days Eastern Uganda Tour you will go off the beaten track to explore the East! You will visit the source of the Nile in Jinja, participate in the adventurous whitewater rafting experience and have a go at quad biking in the nearby villages.

You will continue further east to visit Mount Elgon National Park and pay homage to the beautiful Sipi falls, explore the crater lakes and huge caves, and enjoy views of regenerating forests, fields of colorful flowers, extensive stands of bamboo, and a variety of birds and wild animals.

Day 1: Travel to Jinja

You will have an early breakfast and travel east of Kampala to Jinja. On your way you will have a stopover in the Mabira Forest, one of the tropical forests in Uganda. A short hike inside this forest will enable you to see various species of primates, birds and colorful butterflies.

You will continue the journey to Jinja through beautiful scenery of tea and sugar cane plantations along the road and the colourful roadside stalls studded with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Upon arrival in Jinja you will visit the genuine origin of the Nile to see the spot where the longest drive in the world starts its journey to the Mediterranean Sea. You will have lunch and later go for a brief drive through the historical town of Jinja before retiring to the hotel of your booking for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Rafting on the Nile

You will, after breakfast, go for the adventurous white-water rafting on the Nile River. The rafting begins at the Source of the Nile at 09:30am with a comprehensive briefing and being fitted with the special rafting gear. The rafting is done on an 18 kilometre stretch of the Nile River and no prior experience of rafting is required.

The first few rapids are of low grade (1, 2) to build the confidence of the participants before guiding them gradually into the more challenging grades. A total of eight major rapids are rafted to maximize the adrenaline rush of this adventure.

You will also enjoy the beautiful scenery and thundering rapids of the White Nile and see incredible bird life as you drift quietly between the rapids. You will be treated to a barbecue and drinks after the rafting after which you will retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Quad biking, Kayaking, Horse riding

You will have breakfast and then go on a 4 hour quad bike safari. You will follow the small tracks through the bushes that lead us to beautiful viewpoints overlooking the rapids of the Nile.

The safari will also give you the chance to explore the African countryside from another angle, as you pass small villages and see people go about their daily routine activities.

In the afternoon you will relax at the impressive Bujagali Falls, ride along the shores of the Nile on the back of a horse, go kayaking, enjoy a village walk or rent a mountain bike and explore the surroundings.

Day 4: Travel to Sipi

You will after your breakfast set off to explore the east towards Tororo, situated at the border with Kenya. From here you will observe the Tororo Rock, a prominent rock that rises 300 metres above the surrounding plains. Rock climbing is possible on request. You proceed to Mbale, a town at the foot of Mount Elgon.

This area is full of rich heritage and fascinating culture of Imbalu circumcision which is regarded as a ritual passage of young men into adulthood.

You will have a lunch stop at Mbale and with beautiful viewpoints on your way travel to Sipi Village, nestled between mountains and waterfalls. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge of your booking.

Day 5: Hike to Sipi Falls

You will after your breakfast go for a hike to the stunning Sipi falls that cascade over a 100 meter cliff. You will continue with a steep climb to a series of caves as you follow the challenging trail to two other waterfalls.

You will pass maize fields, coffee gardens, banana plantations, and typical African homesteads on your way and enjoy the breathtaking views over the valley.

Those interested in experiencing a real thrill and watching the waterfalls from a very close distance will go abseiling down the mountain to the bottom of the famous Sipi Falls. At the end of the day, you will experience a magnificent sunset before returning to your lodge.

Day 6: Exploration of Mount Elgon National Park

You will have an early breakfast and drive to the Mount Elgon Forest Exploration Centre for a day hike that will enable you to explore the diverse mountain forest. There are two hike option areas to choose from.

The popular forest exploration center trail loop site takes you to the cool mist at Chebonet falls, Kapkwai cave, the talking tree and a spectacular viewpoint of the low land areas below.

The other is the long ‘arm’ of Mt. Elgon that bears the Wanale trails loop with vertical cliffs of ridge and several cascading waterfalls that make a very scenic drive.

Each of these hike areas has short walk trails ranging between 3km and 11km that offer an excellent opportunity to experience Mt. Elgon’s unique plants and wildlife in a short period.

In both, you will enjoy views of regenerating forests, fields of colourful flowers, extensive stands of bamboo and a variety of birds and wild animals. You will retire to dinner and overnight at your lodge in the Sipi areas.

Day 7: Travel to Kampala

You will depart Mt Elgon after breakfast and head back to the capital city arriving in Kampala in the afternoon.
