Detailed 8 Days Uganda Primates and Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Kibale National Park

From Kampala or Entebbe, your driver guide will pick you up early in the morning to start your safari to Kibale National Park where your 8 Days Uganda Primate and Kenya Safari starts. The journey to Kibale National Park takes you through the scenic countryside, through some popular towns like Mityana, and Kyejonjo. Arrive at the park and proceed to your booked safari lodge in the late afternoon.

Check-in at your lodge. Lunch will be served at your lodge. After lunch, there is an optional tour to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking at Kibale National Park

Today you will be embarking on the first primate adventure on this classic 8 Days Uganda Primates & Kenya Wildlife Safari. Following breakfast, head to the park headquarters where you will join groups of other trekkers for a briefing session. During the briefing session, you will be guided on how to successfully conduct your trek, safety precautions, and the dos and don’ts during the trek.

After briefing, grab your trekking stick and follow your ranger guide into the forest to search for the chimpanzees. After a long trek in the forest, you will finally encounter these primates in the jungle and have the opportunity to observe them for about 1 hour. Although less popular than mountain gorillas, an encounter with the chimpanzees is really life-changing. Being one of the human closest relatives, you will be thrilled as you witness a sense of similarity as they try to mimic human behaviors. Enjoy your time with the primates.

After your allocated time with the chimps elapses, you will start the trek back to the starting point where you will meet your guide who then transfers you back to your lodge for a refreshing meal and relaxation.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Following an early morning breakfast at your lodge, depart for Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – home to more than half of the endangered mountain gorilla. The journey takes you through the scenic countryside as you head to this iconic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will arrive at Bwindi in the afternoon and proceed to your booked safari lodge for a sumptuous meal and a relaxing evening stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The long awaited gorilla trekking will be done on this day. Start your day early in the morning with breakfast at your safari lodge. After breakfast, head to the park headquarters where you will join other groups of trekkers for a briefing session about gorilla trekking. During the briefing session, you will be provided with all the necessary information about gorilla trekking, including the safety measures, and dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking. You will then be put into small groups of 8 members and allocated gorilla groups to trek.

After the briefing session, grab your trekking stick and follow the lead of your ranger guide into the forest to search for the endangered mountain gorillas in the jungles. The trek will last for some hours as you traverse the biodiverse Bwindi forest while witnessing the different flora and fauna that the park has to offer. After locating the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend about one hour with the gorillas. Enjoy viewing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to the visitors center where you will meet your driver guide who then transfers you back to your lodge for a refreshing meal. In the Afternoon, embark on a cultural tour of the nearby Batwa community for an immersive cultural experience.

Day 5: Transfer back to Entebbe

Wake up at leisure and enjoy breakfast at your lodge. After breakfast, depart your lodge in Bwindi and start the journey back to Entebbe. This journey takes about 8 to 9 hours, arrive at Entebbe in the late evening and proceed direct to your booked hotel within Entebbe.

Day 6: Fly to Kenya and transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, depart your lodge and drive to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight to Kenya. Arrive at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be received by your Kenya safari guide who will then transfer you to Masai Mara National Reserve.

This journey takes you through the floor of the rift valley where you can have a stop for spectacular views. You will continue with a drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, arriving in the evening. Drive to your booked lodge or safari camp.

Day 7: Full day adventure in Masai Mara National Reserve

Start your day early in the morning with a hefty breakfast.  Depart your lodge with packed lunch and explore the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, home to the spectacular wildebeest migration and the African Big Five animals. Drive through the vast wilderness teeming with lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopards, many kinds of antelopes and elephants.

Enjoy wildlife watching in the Masai Mara during your game drive, visit different wildlife hotspots within the reserve. You will have a a lunch break for an opportunity to enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot in the reserve. After lunch, proceed with your adventure in the reserve.  In the late afternoon, visit the Masai communities for an opportunity to learn more about their culture, and way of life and have fun interacting with the locals.

Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer back to Nairobi and fly back home
